Biohazard Knot for zombie lovers (coloring page)

Biohazard symbol knotwork- blank coloring page available

It's October- which means zombies, Halloween and Supernatural. Okay, Supernatural has absolutely nothing to do with this knotwork, but I'm really, really excited about it.

I hope you enjoy this knot to color as much as I enjoyed drawing it. It's a biohazard symbol, which are frequently used in pop culture zombie movies and merchandise.

Click the images below for larger version to print and color.

Jehanna Friendship Knot- coloring and embroidery

Friendship knot- with a version to color and one to embroider

Today is my friend Jehanna's birthday. We've been friends for over a decade and she loves knots a lot. So I drew this friendship knot for her-

It has 12 sides for the journey around the sun she's made since her last birthday.

It has circles that represent friendship, love, sharing, experience and eternity.

The simple line version is for embroidery because she loves to sew.

I hope you all enjoy this. Print, color, embroider it, and if you have a moment, send a good thought to Jehanna to wish her a fantastic birthday!

Cute true story:
My husband works in housekeeping, heading up a housekeeping department. Recently at work, he was shredding papers, and found a few mandalas in the papers he was shredding. He thought "That looks familiar." and checked for a URL. Sure enough, someone he works with had printed out stuff from Don't Eat the Paste! He doesn't promote my site at work, so it was purely coincidental. So, if you work in Anchorage, and the head of your housekeeping department is named Mike, HI! Thank you for the smile!

I love the therapists and yoga instructors who write to me and tell me how they are using the printables and mandalas from DETP. Thank you all.

Shamrock Coloring Page and Embroidery Pattern

knotwork shamrock

There will be a box with this design, and a modified version of this knot on a box that can be colored.
If you really like shamrocks, and knotwork shamrocks- you can find a bunch of projects, printables and coloring pages here
Shamrocks on Don't Eat the Paste

I do hope you enjoy this one. Click on the image for a larger version, print and color. Because the knot has two lines in it, one line is in green on the embroidery pattern if you want to use more than one color.

Snowknot gift box to print and make

This month I got two different kinds of flu! One from my daughter, one from my husband. It's been a fun month. So there hasn't been much in the way of arts, crafts or cooking. Mostly just watching Red Dwarf, Doc Martin and reading books on my kindle with the font size made huge so it wouldn't give me a headache.

So that's why there hasn't been much for the holidays. I hope you enjoy this gift box! There is a black and white version for people like Libby to color, and a colored version to put together for last minute gifts.

Click on the images for larger versions, print on card stock, cut out, score folds, fold and glue!

This one is a very simple heart knot to color. I really like the way it splits warm and cool colors in a rainbow palette! I hope you enjoy it just as much.

Knotwork Embroidery Pattern and Coloring Page

I haven't drawn a knot in a while. This round knot is one that I think would look nifty as clock face since it has 12 "petals".

Book Review- The Ultimate Book of Everyday Knots

The Ultimate Book of Everyday Knots by Geoffrey Budworth
I love knot tying. The math of fancy knots and precision necessary to get them tied right, and the usefulness of being able to tie the right knot when needed.
This collection of "everyday knots" is written by one of the founders of the International Guild of Knot Tyers, Geoffrey Budworth who also wrote the Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots and Rope Work. The book includes wonderful color photos using ropes and strings that show the knots well and very clear step by step diagrams for tying each knot. The knots each have an introduction which explains possible uses for it. At the end of the book are good resources for knot tying and supplies as well as a glossary of knot terms and a good index.
Unlike my purely decorative knot books, this was one that interested my husband as much as me. The instructions are very clear, and he enjoys more practical knots very much. The various stop knots and the hitches were his favorites. My son, who works in paracord loved the handy knots like the bottle slings.
My favorites were the various knots that can be used to tie lanyards, as well as the knots for carrying things like bottles. Following the diagrams for the knife lanyard knot in a cotton waxed 2 mm cord, I tied two very attractive knots then finished with figure 8 slip knots to make a lovely lanyard that I was able to decorate with a spot of beadwork.
knife lanyard knots with beadwork

The knots covered are a variety of hitches which are used to attach a line to a fixed object, two bottle slings to hang a bottle with, fixed knots which are knots which remain in place securely on a cord, some with loops for things like mountain or rock climbing, others bulky enough to form a stop on a cord, and various sliding knots that have lots of uses.
These are reliable knots, most of them fairly simply tied. This book is perfect for a beginning knotter. It's already a favorite for my family.

Published by Skyhorse Publishing.

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review, my reviews are always my personal and honest opinion. You can read more about my review policy here.

Shamrock Mandala

I hope you enjoy this shamrock mandala with 2 knots combination to color or use for other crafts. Click on the image for a larger version in transparent PNG

I've been watching Xena lately, it was one of Kim's favorite shows. Meg who is a Xena lookalike keeps calling the chakram a shamrock and I'm terribly tempted to draw a shamrock chakram!

Knot coloring page

Knotwork seems to be a running theme here right now. I hope you enjoy this page to color. The pattern that makes up the tile has 12 strands if you're curious about that sort of thing. Click on the image for a larger version. There is also a colored version to use for your paper craft projects if you'd like.

Knotwork Box

Since it's March, it's time for green shakes and Saint Patrick's Day and it's looking like spring might come soon! (must get seedlings planted!)- I hope you enjoy this knotwork printable box. There is also a blank version to color in. Print on card stock, score, fold, glue!

Did you see my printable "No Pinches" paper wristband last year?

Last Friday I sprained my wrist, so a lot of the projects that were planned to finish and write tutorials for, and a couple books that I was planning to review are on hold for a bit. It's doing a lot better now. Since I have been able to knit, I've been making super easy quick hats. Planning to count out the next one to post the pattern.

Knot to color and embroider

This new two strand knot was a lot of fun to draw. Usually, I say "Feel free to use this for embroidery, pryrography or other craft purposes" but this time there is one especially for outline stitch embroidery as well as the coloring page. Click on the images for larger versions. The coloring page is transparent PNG, the embroidery page is gif format. The embroidery page is 2 colors, which makes the 2 strands of the knot easier to see.

New graph up at Beadwork at BellaOnline, and it comes with this example pattern, which is a set of lover's knots around a trinity knot.

Knotwork Frame to Color

I drew this last month and forgot to post it. It's a knotwork frame in transparent PNG format so it can be used in digital scrapping. Click on the image for the larger version to color. The opening will take a 5x7 photo and it prints at 8x10.
The photo used for my example is a Grey Crowned Rosy Finch from my personal photo collection.

In other news, I got picked to be a book giver for World Book Night. This is just a marvelous idea from the UK, book publishers and sellers are providing books for volunteers to hand out to adults who might not normally read for pleasure. My plan is to go out with my kids to our Town Square and hand the books out there, and if I get a book they haven't read yet, they will read it first. My picks were all books that I enjoyed, and my first choice is one of my husband's favorite books.

Yesterday I also won chocolate from Ghirardelli, they were having a Facebook craft contest, and I entered with this printable box that holds Ghirardelli squares.

Books and chocolate! Life is good.

Currently working on:
Instructions for hair bobbles
A crocheted lanyard- a pattern for the strap will be posted here in the next day or two

I hope you enjoy them!

Usual terms on the embroidery patterns, which means, if you use them on finished items, you can sell those items without asking permission. I'd love to see pictures of course. :)
