Rotational symmetry- Circles

Circles- rotational symmetry

I haven't done a lot of rotational symmetry recently in drawing. It was time.

I decided to work just with circles because drawing and placing circles for something like this is really relaxing for me. I hope you all find the same peace coloring it!!

a pair of black and white gift boxes to make
This design was originally made to be a new background for one of my printable quotes. But I liked the pattern so much that I decided that it would be nice on a pair of printable boxes in 2x2x2 and 3x3x1 sizes.

Sun mandala to print and color

Rainbow star mandala- blank version available to color
The reason I haven't been updating a lot this month, or part of it, is because I've been working with a rubber stamping company on a line of stamps. It's pretty exciting.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this mandala to print and color.

Circles Mandala to color

This actually started as a background to one of the mandalas I'm drawing for the coloring book. But it looked too busy. Because I thought some of you might enjoy it, I nested the rings to create this mandala. There is a lot of room for playing with colors.

Rainbow Circles Box and a new bead project

I hope you enjoy this printable geometric rainbow colored circles box. The pattern occurred to me while I was reading a sword and sorcery adventure novel (I love Simon Green, it's one of my secret guilty pleasures) and worked out just right on the first try for the 3 inch repeat with the colors.

Currently (9-19-2013 to 9-25-2013) voting in Spoonflower's geometric contest. I'd love to see this pattern made into shoes if you want to vote for me, but there are a ton of great designs to choose from and you can vote for all of your favorites by signing into your Spoonflower account.

You can find instructions for this faux arm candy memory wire bracelet HERE. It's super easy and a great way to use leftover beads from other projects.

Christmas Gift Box- Curved Square

I hope you enjoy the new design! This box is kind of unusual and does take a bit of patience if you've never folded curves before. I always recommend scoring folds first, but for curved fold, you have to score. If you don't have a bone folder, other good options are a blunt yarn needle, the back of a butter knife, or my personal favorite, the smooth back of a steel crochet hook.
The other thing that's unusual about this box is that it can be closed in a variety of ways, you don't need to use glue, but you will need to use something. For my example, I used a bit of elastic cord, and put the "top" sides towards the inside of the box, and the bottom flap on the outside. You could also use a decorative sticker, a piece of tape, glue the sides, yarn or ribbon to close.

In other news, I was recently writing a review on Amazon for a French press coffee maker, and had to delete a lot of it because I started getting really off track about the differences in coffee brewing methods. I thought about writing the whole thing here, but I'm really not sure you all want to "hear" me talking about coffee!!

Circle pattern 2x2 printable boxes in 5 colors

I hope you enjoy this simple geometric patterned box in 5 colors. Click on the images for large versions, print on card stock, cut out, score, fold, glue!

My birthday was lovely, my son made spaghetti for dinner and my daughter gave me a wonderful pair of knitting needles she made from a branch she found, stripped, dried and sanded super smooth. Then my daughter and I made a no-bake cheesecake without a recipe. Hopefully it sets up well! We also dyed feathers together. Crafty, creative fun.

Happy Pi Day!

I love Pi! It's something that get used frequently by crafters and seamstresses.

Like cone hats- one of the easiest ways to make a cone hat that fits the person wearing it is to make it from a quarter circle. For that, you measure the circumference of your head, multiply that number by 4, divide by pi then divide by 2 for the radius of a quarter circle that will fit your head.

So now you can make your cone with newspaper or on fabric easily, adding a half inch to each side for a seam allowance or overlap.
Adding a brim for witch hat is measuring the circumference of your head and dividing by pi for the inner circle radius, then for the outer circle, add the number of inches you want the brim to be to the radius.

A couple of years ago I posted a PDF template for cutting the waist of circle skirts. You can find that here.
Also check out these printable pi(e) labels.

Miniature pies are trendy, check out my review of Mini Pies, and my review of Cutie Pies
