Mixed Patterns Mandala to color

Mixed Patterns Mandala to color

Mixed patterns were at one time considered a definite fashion no-no. That's changed. This mandala combines polka dots, chevrons, and stripes. I hope you enjoy it. Click on the images for larger versions to print and color.

Crochet Blocks Ribbon Pattern

Crochet Blocks Ribbon Pattern

This ribbon pattern is so easy to make, it just uses chains and single crochets to create nice neat rows of diagonally set blocks. I used the ribbons to make bracelets by stitching snaps on the ends.

American terminology
ch=chain
sc= single crochet

Worst weighted yarn version:
You will need:

  • worsted weight yarn
  • size G (4.25mm) hook
  • yarn needle
  • scissors
Chain 5

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch (4 sc)
Row 2: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across
Row 3: Repeat row 2
Row 4: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across, ch 3 (first block made)

Row 5: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, sc in next 2 stitches (4 sc)

Row 6: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across
Row 7: Repeat row 2
Row 8: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across, ch 3 (block made)

Repeat rows 5-8 for as long as you want the strip to be, on the last block, skip the ending chain 3, and break off yarn to weave in ends.

Size 10 thread version:
You will need:

  • Size 10 thread
  • Size 5 steel hook (1.7mm)
  • Chenille or ribbon needle to weave in ends
  • scissors
Chain 7
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch (6 sc)
Row 2: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across
Row 3-5: Repeat row 2
Row 6: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across, ch 4 (first block made)

Row 7: Sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, sc in next 3 stitches (6 sc)

Row 8: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across
Row 9-11: Repeat row 2
Row 12: ch 1 to turn (does not count as first sc), sc in each st across, ch 4 (block made)

Repeat rows 7-12 for as long as you want the strip to be, on the last block, skip the ending chain 4 and break off thread to weave in ends.

To make bracelets-
you will also need sewing thread, hand sewing needle and sew on snaps.
Make strips long enough to wrap around you wrist and overlap one block. For the worsted weight, that wound up being 8 blocks, for the thread it was 10 blocks.
Stitch the snaps on each end of the bracelet, with one side of the snap in the middle of one block on one end, then flip the ribbon over and sew the other side of the snap in the middle of the block on the other end.

You could stitch the edges together offset by 2 and 3 respectively to make a bangle but the blocks will stretch more that way. Snaps seemed a good option for keeping the shaping without having to reblock every time I wore the bracelet!

For the worsted weight, I used a stash yarn in cotton. For the thread version, I used Aunt Lydia's crochet cotton in Aspen. I love how the colorway created pretty striping on the finished project.

Pattern Coloring Page

I haven't done a coloring page based on patterns in a while. Hopefully you enjoy this one. The base for the pattern is a basketweave, which was then reflected using a kaleidoscope filter to create this tiling repeat.
Click on the images for a larger version. You can use this for wrapping paper for small gifts, just for fun to color in, and for scrapbooking elements. Or as usual, for any crafty purpose. There is another coloring pattern page available here.

Another Pattern Coloring Page

For other pattern lovers. I hope you enjoy this. I find coloring in geometric patterns very meditative and relaxing. The pages are 8x10 png and you can use them for all sorts of crafty purposes. You can color them in to use as scrapbook paper, or use them as wall paper in a dollhouse. I think what I'll do is make a couple patches using iron fabric that can be colored in with permanent markers. Click on the images for larger versions.

Curve stitching forget-me-not printables

Curve stitching is interesting, and I always forget how fun until I run across something about it. It's creating curves using straight lines, or for people my age, it's the nail and string art that our parents did or had in the 70s. The coloring page and pattern are meant to be printed at 100 dpi and will be 8 inches across printed at 100 dpi. If you download the pattern and print it at a higher dpi it will print smaller. The pattern can either be used with a ruler and colored pencils or you could pierce a card and use thread to stitch the design. Follow the lines in the coloring page to make it look like mine. Click on the images for the full sized versions. The box is 300 dpi. I resized one layer and not the other from my 300 dpi original and really liked how it looked which is why the coloring is all outside the lines.

This time, what made me think of curve stitching was finding a vintage nail and string art book at a local book store. If you ever come to Anchorage, you might want to go to Title Wave Books. They have a huge collection of new and used books with pretty impressive cookbook and craft book section. I found 3 more vintage craft books for my collection, a liqueur recipes vintage book, and 2 Japanese beading books. I need to do a vintage craft book post again soon!

Snowflake set of goodies

I graphed a snowflake in beads to use as my current user picture on Facebook, I liked that well enough that I decided to draw one as well.
So first, a card and envelope set. The cards print 2 to a page, so you'll need to print 2 of the envelopes to go with them. They are 5 inches high x 3.5 inches wide which just reaches USPS letter size. To make the envelope, fold in the sides, then the bottom. Glue the bottom to the sides. Fold the top and seal with tape or with a pretty label. Print the envelope on paper, the card on card stock. The set is in 300 ppi. Click on the images for the larger versions. Inside of the card is blank for your sentiment. Back of the card has a quote I liked and my name as the artist.

And a full sized page to print out and use as art if you wish. Has the quote from the card on it.
300 ppi, click image for the larger version.

Not done yet! A coloring page, and embroidery patterns. These are in 100 ppi. Click on the images for the full sized version.

Duplicate stitch patterns- tattoos

Who didn't absolutely love the sock monkey tattoo on the Kia commercial? Duplicate stitch sock monkey tattoo was the win of the Superbowl commercials.
I've been meaning to graph out some duplicate stitch charts for adding duplicate stitch to your favorite thrift store sweater, or maybe even a sweater you buy from a thrift store just to put a duplicate stitch tattoo on it. I finally did a couple, but I'll absolutely be making more charts.
The sock monkey tattoo was duplicate stitch with a backstitch outline, so I graphed something like that.
There are blank banner versions and an alphabet, so you should be able to chart a very short word or maybe just initials in one of these. Click on the images for the full sized version. For how to do duplicate stitch, I love this tutorial by the purl bee.

Flying Panda Cross Stitch Patterns

After posting the flying panda story, someone said they liked the pattern but they didn't do brick stitch. She does however do bead point. So with that in mind, I graphed a flying panda for bead point.

I think it's very cute. I also decided cross stitchers needed flying panda love.

I also did it with the squares completely filled in, just lighter for the cross stitches then for the back stitch.

Flying pandas make me very happy.

Jolly Roger earring patterns

I hope you enjoy this set of Jolly Roger Skull brick stitch earring patterns.

I was considering making them an e-book for 99 cents, but instead decided to post them for free. If you'd like to make a small donation using the button on the right I'd appreciate it, but it isn't necessary. You have my permission to make these earrings for sale as long as they are not being mass produced.
