Snailiad Love Cross Stitch

Snailiad  is a Metroid-like game designed by a friend of mine. It's all very retro, Auriplane likes pixel graphics and 8 bit music. With her kind permission, I snagged some of the graphics from the game to turn into a cross stitch pattern. I adapted her original game graphics into this little piece of pixel art.

Sized at 70 pixels wide by 49 pixels high, it will stitch up to 5 inches wide and 3.5 inches high on 14 count fabric. Click on the image below to print the chart.

I used the RGB DMC chart available here to work out the colors.

Snailiad is free to play, and has gotten good reviews from various game sites. Auriplane is currently working on the sequel. She made the game using all free utilities to prove that a game could be created without buying expensive programs. Her art is used with permission.

Snail boxes and another coloring page

More snails! (I told you it was going on a box!) I hope you enjoy this printable gift box with a snail on it. There is also one that can be colored. Click on the images for larger versions to print. Cut/score/fold/glue or Color/cut/score/fold/glue.

And a coloring page!

Yesterday we went thrifting. It was really good. I got some lanyards to take apart for hardware, a big pack of scrapbook paper (12x12) and to my absolute joy, a bunch of little mending kits. Why mending kits? Because the little ones that you get as a courtesy at some hotels and such are wonderful to make cases for as gifts for friends. Little favors and such. These have thread, 2 needles and 2 buttons in a little pillow box.
I also got some new vintage cookbooks. *happiness* What really excited me the most is a vintage Alaska cookbook about using game meat. It was compiled of recipes submitted by game hunters and their wives in the 70s and has such oddities as Pan-Fried Beaver, Jellied Moose Nose and Porcupine Fricassee. It also has some more usable recipes in it as well, including several for local wild plant edibles. Yay!

Snail mandala and coloring page

Snails are cool!
I originally started drawing a snail mandala, but decided that it should also be front and center as a coloring page, and possible put on a box later. Click on the images for larger versions to color, transparent PNG.

Snail mandala coloring page

If you like playing games, and have an appreciation for old school 8 bit games, I'd like to recommend Snailiad. Snailiad is just adorable. You're a little snail trying to save the snails that are disappearing for mysterious reasons. It's addictive and absolutely adorable. Cute pixel graphics. I think that I need to cross stitch some of them.
Anyway.. Snailiad inspired this mandala. Hope you like it! Print at 100 dpi. Feel free to use it for any crafty purposes, not just coloring!

Paper Snails

I love my vintage craft books. These adorable snails came from a Sunset Kid's Crafts book from 1973. Aren't they cute?
I made some out of scrap paper. The edges from the bat labels I printed the other day on the pretty coffee paper, and one out of a bag from the bead show I was at last Saturday.

Curling paper is easy, it's similar to curling ribbons but going too fast can tear the paper. I'll usually use a table edge or my fingernail instead of scissors and hold it down and pull like you do for curling ribbon. I used a glue stick for these.

Cut the strip of paper for the snail. I made my strips between 6 and 8 inches long and about a half inch wide, curl the paper, then curve in the head and glue it, and glue the bottom of the "shell" spiral on top of the part of the head you glued down. Cut out a small antenna shape and fold the base of it up at a 90 degree angle and curl the antenna using your thumbnail and index finger. Glue in place on the head.
Great way to use security envelopes and other scrap paper. I think they are entirely too cute.
I posted an article on doing the loops on eye pins you can find here.

Snails!

A friend of mine has an obsession with snails lately so I drew one for her then I had to color it in and put it on a box for everyone else. I hope you like it.
As usual, click on the image for the full sized version.
I finished my updates at my main printables page. You can see that here
