Biohazard Knot for zombie lovers (coloring page)

Biohazard symbol knotwork- blank coloring page available

It's October- which means zombies, Halloween and Supernatural. Okay, Supernatural has absolutely nothing to do with this knotwork, but I'm really, really excited about it.

I hope you enjoy this knot to color as much as I enjoyed drawing it. It's a biohazard symbol, which are frequently used in pop culture zombie movies and merchandise.

Avocados and Halloween- Ghoulishly Green

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Avocados from Mexico for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
Halloween and avocados from Mexico are a great combination for parties and get togethers. Tomorrow is Halloween and "Spookamole" recipes are fast and wonderful to serve to adult guests while children go out trick or treating.
At the end of this feature are some free printable Zombie Apocalypse recipe cards for your own favorite Halloween recipes.
Halloween recipes are available at Avocados from Mexico. My personal favorite is the

Lump Crab Guacamole:
2 avocados from Mexico, halved, pitted, peeled and coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons finely chopped white onion
1 Serrano chile, seeded and minced
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice, divided
1-1/4 teaspoons salt, divided
8 ounces lump crabmeat
1/2 teaspoon grated lime zest
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Lump Crab Guacamole:
In a medium bowl, coarsely mash avocados. Add onion, chile, 3 tablespoons of the lime juice and 1 teaspoon of the salt; mix well. In a separate bowl, combine crabmeat, lime zest, chives, remaining 2 tablespoons of lime juice and 1/4 teaspoon of salt; toss gently. Mix crab mixture into the guacamole. Serve with tortilla chips.
I use Alaskan Snow Crab of course, it's fairly inexpensive here, and it's my favorite. While I could weigh it out, generally I just buy a pound of clusters, and whatever doesn't get snacked on while getting it out of the shell winds up in the recipe! Snow crab clusters, like King crab are already cooked. Just thaw and go.
2 of my favorite things in the world makes for a very rich dip that's just amazing.

CRAZI sign, DIY and zombies

It's been a very zombie week around here. The above is a graphic that I made to help promote Microcosm Distribution's End Of the World list. Then I got a message from Bosco's saying the *autographed* poster I won at the release party for 100th issue of Walking Dead came in. (yay!!) Then the news ran a report about our local zombie preparedness exercise to tell people "Don't Shoot the Zombies"

So, I decided it was a sign that to make a printable poster for zombie craft fans. The poster is in very plain black and white so you can print it on whatever kind of paper you want and have fun adding ink or paint gore to it if you'd like.

Click on the image for a larger version to print.
C.R.A.Z.I. is a silly little acronym I came up with for this project. Crafters Rebuilding After Zombie Invasions.

This is TG with my poster. The scrawl on it is Robert Kirkman's (the author) signature.

Book Review- Zombie Cupcakes

Zombie Cupcakes : From the Grave to the Table with 16 Cupcake Corpses by Zilly Rosen. The title just makes you think "disturbingly cute idea" does it?
My daughter and I were both enthused over this cookbook. 16 cupcakes with decorating instructions to make them fit for a horror themed party, Halloween or just grossing out her dad.
So first, the decoration. Instructions are given for all the little disgusting details, which include rats, crows and eyeballs. The instructions are clear enough that even if you aren't a master sculptor you should be able to make all the projects. Some may need a little practice like artery detail on the eyeballs. The author uses some clever techniques and simple tools for a lot of the effects. The decorations use purchased, ready to use ingredients along with food coloring. Amounts are specified.
The recipes are fantastic. Because if people can get past the "EEEW!" factor, you want the cupcake to be the reward right? It starts with 4 frosting recipes, and lots of cupcake recipes, all made from scratch.Gingerbread, pumpkin, chocolate, devil's food, vanilla, there is a cupcake recipe for every occasion. All well explained and easy to bake.
As far as kids go, my teenage daughter thinks this is the coolest cupcake book ever. I have a bunch of cupcake books but the gore combined with the recipes appeals to her. My husband picked it up and glanced through it, then set it down quickly and said "I didn't want to see that." I asked "What?" and he shuddered and said "The eyeballs."
I promised not to try and feed him those, but didn't say a word about The Crows cupcake with it's fine detail of shiny raspberry jam "blood" under fondant "skin".
Recommended absolutely if you're a fan of zombies, cupcakes or have teens who love the gore. Great way to inspire kids to cook.

Book Review- Zombie Felties

What's the most adorable and disturbing thing you've seen recently? For me it has to be Zombie Felties.
I really loved the first Felties book, so I was fairly sure that this one would be just as much fun.
Felties are tiny little dolls made from craft felt. They are stitched with embroidery floss and thread, accented with beads and sequins and embroidery techniques and are just wonderful little projects for gift tie-ons, making into brooches and as small gifts. They are quick, affordable and a great portable craft or craft to do with kids just learning to hand sew.
The Zombie Feltie book focuses on the creepy side of this craft. Just perfect for Halloween really, and the projects stitch up fast enough you could make a whole bunch little creepy cute brooches to wear through October. There are a bunch of just wonderful patterns, sewing instructions and tips on making felt easier to work with in small scale. The projects include, as you'd expect, a few regular zombies. Then the authors got creative. A diminutive zombie fairy holds a scepter topped with a skull, zombie vampires, a dead duck with little bullet holes and blood, a pumpkin head zombie has sequin brains coming out of a break in the pumpkin. It's gruesome, it's adorable. It's one of the cutest and most clever takes I've seen on horror themes in crafting.
16 full sized patterns and instructions. Just perfect for your favorite little ghoul, as long your favorite ghoul is old enough. The finished projects do have small parts and some of them have jagged edges.
You can get the book directly from the publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing or below from Amazon.com (The link is an affiliate link and helps pay some of the costs of maintaining this site.)
U.S.A.U.K. Also, for printie loving crafters, the end of the book has a little coffin you can copy and make coffins to keep your little zombies in!
