I'm cold. It's very cold here in Anchorage, cold enough that it's made local news that it's really cold.

Today's coloring page was fun to draw but it was one that I wasn't sure when it was done. Fortunately my son came over and said "That's cool looking." before I tried to work more stuff in it.

Tulips in the Sun to color!

In Anchorage, Alaska right now it's about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm putting out seeds that are safe for before the final frost, and my rhubarb is starting to come up. For all of you who are waiting for spring, I hope you enjoy this coloring page!

I'm really loving this kind of look right now. This page was inspired by the fact it's time to start ordering seeds for growing in the summer, that the days are getting longer and winter will end.

My husband saw it and said "Oh, some people are going to be really happy!"

Celestial Mandala 2016

Back when I first started, very shyly, to post coloring pages instead of just printable boxes, one of my very first mandalas was a celestial one that has become one of my most popular designs. Since then, I've considered re-visiting the basic idea a few times, and finally did it this week.

Wire Sun Mandala to color and life update

This wire sun mandala started with the looped outside- then it got stuck. I liked the shape, but wasn't sure how to fill in the rest. Nothing I tried looked quite right. My husband asked "Are you making it more complicated than it needs to be?"

Exactly. So then I started adding the rings. Decided that looked sort of like complicated wire work and went from there working inwards to create something like a sun.

So right now I have a lot of craft projects lined up for this month, but some of them are crochet projects that I need to count stitches on because i forgot to keep notes . Other than that, I've been contracted to do another coloring book for Dover!!! YAY! and finishing up a set of stamps for a stamp company. They needed a lot of images in a hurry so most of what I've been drawing as been for them. It's the first time I've had a line of rubber stamps though so I'm terribly excited about the project.

The reason I haven't been updating a lot this month, or part of it, is because I've been working with a rubber stamping company on a line of stamps. It's pretty exciting.

Stars, moons, rainbows and the sun- a new mandala to color

So yesterday someone posted a picture of Groovy Mandalas on one of the coloring lists I'm on- and a few people talked about how much they loved it, how it was their first or their favorite coloring book.

I'm feeling just.. wow. No words to express my gratitude.

Printable sunny fan gift box

I don't make these open topped gift boxes nearly often enough, and I like the style because they can be so decorative. I hope you enjoy this fan shaped box as much as I do. The sunny design is inspired by the gorgeous weather we've been having up here in Alaska.

Instructions are on the file you print, and they are very simple to make. I use regular scissors to cut out the main parts, then do the fiddly bits with smaller scissors, but you can absolutely do it with a craft knife too.

Print on card stock, cut out, score folds, fold, glue!!

A Very Sunny Christmas Box

One of my readers wrote me recently lamenting the fact that so many Christmas things were snowy, cold, frozen scenes. She lives in Australia and has never seen a snowy Christmas in her life. Of course, here in Alaska, Christmas means cold, dark, snow, ice and icicles everywhere. So I never even thought about the fact the seasons are switched down south.

So I asked some of my friends who live in Australia, and they told me all about having cold prawns for dinner, going swimming with friends and family or going to the beach. About having cold cuts and lollies and unless it's unseasonably cold- never ever considering heating up the kitchen for a turkey dinner.

Personally- I think cold prawns are ALWAYS a good idea, so they will be part of our Christmas dinner this year.

Moose Mandala to color

MOOSE!
We get them in our neighborhood so often. Generally cows and calves. Alaska is the home of the biggest moose, alces alces giga. My husband has had to call in "moose" to work in the past, because he's not messing with any animal bigger than our car who just wants to hang out in our driveway.

So since moose make me think of Alaska, this is kind of an Alaskan themed mandala. The center represents the North Star, the flowers which are completely not in scale represent our state flower, the forget-me-not (forget-me-nots are tiny in real life. Moose are HUGE), and the sunrise/sunset for our midnight sun in summer when it only gets dark for about an hour then we have a 3 hour long glorious dawn starting about 2 am.

Comic book inspired sun and rainbow printable box

Printable Sun Box

The sun is up for over 15 hours a day now up here but it's still not warm enough to plant seeds. I hope you enjoy this sun themed box! In other news! It's been a really good day other than the fact my friend Sam is still missing. 

This morning started with 2 really nice emails. One of them was for my original site, asking for permission to use my beading graph paper  for teaching purposes. The other was a fantastic thank you from a lady who uses my mandalas in all sorts of gift giving ways. 

Then the mail started coming. First up was Fed Ex with this!

Then the regular mail person came, and we talked about Pinterest for a few minutes. She delivered a big set of gel pens.  Then UPS came and there was a Dremel 4200 that I won in a contest. Just a banner mail day, both snail mail and email!
